Tokugawa Art Museum

 

 About

Opened in 1935 to exhibit family treasures that formed the inheritance of the 19th Owari Tokugawa Marquis Yoshichika.  These items which were passed down through the generations of the Tokugawa family- The Art, furnishings, armour,garments etc, used by the founder on the Edo period form the core of the collection.  Also artifacts cherished by his 9th son and founder of the Owari Tokugawa branch(Tokugawa Yoshinao) have been added to the collection.  In all the museum boasts 9 items designated 'National treasures', 55 objects designated 'Important Cultural Properties' and 44 art works selected as 'Important Art Objects'.

 Access

Subway: From Sakae Station, take the Meijo Line (purple) to Ozone.  Take Exit #3 - Then a 15 minute walk to the museum.

Train - JR:  Take the JR Chuo line bound for Tajimi and get off at Ozone station (South / Minami Exit) - 10 minute walk to Museum.

City Bus: Take the 'Key-Route' city bus from Nagoya station (from green No. 7 bus-stop), bound for Hikarigaoka or Idakashako.  Get off at Tokugawaen Shindeki bus stop - 3 minutes walk to Museum.

Meitetsu Bus: Take a meitetsu bus bound for 'Hikiyama' leaving from #4 boarding spot in Nagoya bus centre (3rd floor of Melsa).  Get off at Tokugawa Sindeki bus stop - 3 minute walk to Museum.
