Australian Rules Football - The Nagoya Redbacks |

If you are a seasoned pro or want to have fun whilst getting to grips with the sport, then why not join in a training session with the Nagoya Redbacks. Practice is every Sunday in Shirakawa Park in Sakae and open to anybody who wants to join. The team has been around since 2005 and compete nationally with 3 other teams around Japan. The Nagoya Redbacks consist of players from Australia, America, The U.K, Canada and Japan so the atmosphere is really fun and international. Aussie rules football is still an emerging sport in Japan but as support fro the team increases, so does the popularity of the sport. So, get yourself down to Shrikawa park from 3:30pm on Sundays for a motivating most of all totally enjoyable raining session.

Interested in getting involved in some football whilst you're in Nagoya? Shonai FC is an amateur football team formed in Shonai Ryokuchi Koen, Nagoya Japan in October 2003. They are made of players from form all over the world so the atmosphere is fun and light hearted. It's not to say they aren't serious though, they have entered and won a variety of competitions around Japan so its a great chance for a serious game at the same time. They meet every Sunday and play from 2pm behind the athletics stadium in Ryoukuchi-Koen, on the Tsurumai line in Nagoya. Get down for a seriously good kick around! |

About: For those of you looking for a serious weights gym, then Gold's Gym in Kanayama is the perfect option. A huge weights area and very heavy duty machines for serious weightlifters. Saying this though, you will not feel out of place if you are just starting to train, there are a variety of people old and young who use the gym, so the atmosphere is motivating but relaxed at the same time. There is also a good selection of cardio machines - treadmills, bikes and cross trainers, so the gym is also popular with women. The instructors are all nice and very helpful, and they try hard to communicate in English. You will find quite a few foreigners who use the gym, so you can get talking to people pretty easily |

Cost: Various promotions affect the joining fee during the year but it it usually between 1000-3000 yen. You pay monthly, at the end of the month for the next month. Check out the price table below!

About: Located less than 10 minutes walk from Tsurumai subway station and next to Chikusa Aeon Shopping Centre, Megalos Sports Paradise can be found. Not one of the cheapest Sports gyms around but certainly one of the best equipt, theres no doubting the vaule for money. Along with a large training room including weights and the usual selection of training machines, the club offers a full program of aerobics, yoga and dance, swimming (in its 25m pool) and tennis lessons - all of which are held on site. Other studio progams include Dynamic Yoga, Kickboxing, Power training, Ballet, Flamenco to name but a few.

About:
Nagoya City run Sports Centres are open from 10am to 8:30pm Monday to Saturday, until 6pm on Sundays and holidays, and closed either on Mondays or Fridays. Most of the sports centers have a heated indoor pool and a training room with weights and machines. All facilities are open to the general public.
Swimming Pools: Costing 500 Yen for adults and 200 Yen for under 15's to use, the price is vert reasonable. Books of tickets are also available - 11 for the price of 10 and 25 for the price of 20. In addition, a monthly pass is also available - 5000 Yen for adults and 2000 Yen for under 15s. Children under the age of 6 need to be accompanied by an adult. A swimming cap and towel are required to enter the pool.
Training Rooms: It costs 300 Yen for adults and 120 Yen for children to use the training rooms. A block of 5 tickets is also available; 1000 Yen for adults, 400 Yen for under 15s. Additionally, a monthly pass is also available; 2000 Yen for adults, 800 Yen for under 15s. Children under 12 are not allowed. Indoor shoes and towel are required. |
