Nagoya Station connects the city, via the Shinkansen (or Bullet train), with the rest of Japan and so is thought of as the centre of Nagoya city. Train lines running to, from and through the station include the JR, Meitetsu, Kintetsu and Subway networks. There is also a Highway Bus service which runs from the 3rd floor of the Meitetsu Building, providing services to all over Japan.
Nagoya has a good subway system that can get you around the city quickly and safely. At present, there are only 5 major subway lines in use, making journies and connections relatively smooth and stress free. Add to this, the fact that all station names are displayed in English as well as Japanese, getting completely lost is becoming a more difficult thing to do. Japan, compared with many countries is extremely safe, even late at night, so the subway is a really convenient way to get around. Saying this however, it is still advisable to be cautious and not take unnecessary risks. Check out the map and print it out in PDF.

The Airport
Nagoya and the Aichi area in general is lucky to be served by a full international Airport located just 30 minutes away by train (From Nagoya station). A recently built aiprort that only opened in February of 2005, Chubu International is helping Nagoya become such an important base for many new foreign businesses. The same goes for travellers and holiday makers who can travel to all over the country from Japan's biggest and most conveniently located central city.

Getting out of Nagoya
Nagoya is a great place to be, one reason for that is its fantatsic location. If you take the Shinkansen (Bullet train), Tokyo is just an hour and a half away, Osaka within an hour and Kyoto is less than 40 minutes. A little closer to home, exploring Aichi, heading to Mie prefecture or up to Gifu are all options which can take from 10 minutes up to an hour maximum to get to.
