Foreign food shops around Nagoya

 

Seijo Ishii Supermarket  Kanayama Station (Asunaru shopping centre)

 

About: Located just next to Kanayama station, this gourmet upermarket stocks a vast selection of foreign foods and huge alcohol area.  For Italian food lovers you can find proscuitto ham, excellent cheeses, fresh pasta and a good wine selection.  Other varieties of cuisine include Indian, Thai and Chinese.  You'll be able to pick up all the sauces from back home and of course buy your essential groceries too.

Directions: Take the North Exit at Kanayama station and immediately turn left.  Follow the shops rounds for about 30 or so metres and its on the left (opposite a performance stage). Or from the subway, come up at exit #5 and its right infront of you.

Kaldi Coffee Farm  Kanayama Station (Subway enterance)

About: Another specilist food outlet where you can find a nice selection of foods you won't find in regular supermarkets.  Various kinds of pastes, purees, sauses and wines as well as a great slection of ground and pre-ground coffee beans sold at the counter.

Directions: Inside Kanayama station, locate the escalator going down to the subway (there are 2, one on either side of the station - either is ok).  Once at the bottom, turn immediately back on yourself, to the left or rignt side and you will notice a couple of shops  -Vie de France (bakery) and a photo developing shop.  If you walk past them you will see Kaldi right in front of you.

Seijo Ishii Supermarket  Nagoya Station (Behind Meitetsu Dept Store)

 

About: Another store from the popular Seijo ishhi, this store is located right outside Nagoya Station for excellent convenience.  As mentioned above the store has a fantastic choice of preimum foreign foods, alcohol, even freshly bentos and sandwiches too.

Directions: Leave Nagoya via the Hirokouji exit and the shop is right in front of you.  Alternatively, walk out the main Nagoya enterance and walk right until the corner of the Meitetsu station.  Turn down the small road to your right and walk about 50s metres.

  Kitano Ace  Central Sakae 

About: Located in the basement of LACHIC (see shopping in Sakae), Kitano Ace stocks a decent range of international fine foods and drinks.  Although a little pricey, due to its location, it is very central and well presented.

Directions: Enter LACHIC department store and head down to the basement.

Meidi-ya Store  Central Sakae

 

About: An excellent choice if you are not around Kanayama, this store is smack bang in the middle of Sakae.  A good choce of sauces, sliced meats, pastes, wines, chocolates and biscuits.  They often have sales where you can pick up a bargain or two.

Directions:Next to Maruzen bookstore in Sakae.  From Sakae subway station exit 7, walk down the main street, away from Mitsukoshi Dept store (opposite side of the street and behind you as you come up from the subway).  Cross 2 small roads and it's immediately on the corner on your left. Easier to find than explain.

Yamaya  Central Sakae (Underground Shopping Network)

 

About: A recent addition to Sakae, Yamaya has over 160 stores around Japan.  They specialise is quality food and drink from the around the world, the Sakae shop has a huge wine selection.  You can even shop online but unfortunately this service is online available in Japanese.

Directions: Yamaya is in in the basement of the 'Meiji Yasuda Seimei Nagoya' building which can be accessed via the underground shopping network.  Simply get underground at any of the exits (although 2,9,6 and 7 would make it easier to find) and head towards the 'Chunichi building, or exit 12.  When you get close to the Chunichi building ( which will be on your right), Yamaya will be on your left hand side.
